An RAF pilot successfully shot down two Iranian drones over Jordan in a daring mission that felt just like training for him. After ensuring the skies were drone-free, the pilot celebrated the success with a sunrise beer before preparing for his next mission. Flying an F-35B alongside two Typhoon jets, he detected and destroyed the Shahed drones with Amraam air-to-air missiles, marking the first time a British F-35B pilot had destroyed a target during operations.

The pilot, who remains anonymous for security reasons, emphasised the importance of identifying targets accurately and the crucial teamwork with accompanying jets. Although the mission wasn’t about chasing glory, the achievement holds significant importance, especially after RAF Akrotiri was targeted by a drone attack the day before. The stakes were undeniably high if any drones had slipped through their defenses.

The pilot describes the drones he targeted as “very different” from the kamikaze-style attack drone that struck RAF Akrotiri. Despite the operational pressures, his dedication remains unwavering, with a commitment to stay alert and ensure no threats reach their targets.

Reflecting on the tense atmosphere and the operational tempo, the pilot notes that proper celebrations will have to wait. But with one beer down, there’s always more to look forward to once the dust settles. For now, it’s back to duty, maintaining the skies’ safety. Cheers to our brave service members! 🍻✈️
