Simon Wigley, from the Teifi Coastguard team, shared how these cuts could make it impossible to continue volunteering. “We’re already sacrificing sleep and time with family. Without even a stipend, it’s a tough pill to swallow,” he said. These coastguards are Category 1 emergency responders, equivalent to ambulance and fire services, yet they’re now expected to work for nothing.
