🚗⛽ Shift to Electric: Diesel on the Decline! 🔌

Big changes are coming to UK roads as many petrol stations are set to stop selling diesel in the next few years. According to a new report by EV thinkers at New AutoMotive, by 2035, loads of the 8,400 UK filling stations will no longer stock diesel due to a drastic fall in demand.

In a decade, we could see a dramatic drop—from 15.5 million to just 250,000 diesel cars across the country. London might even become the first UK city to say goodbye to diesel cars altogether! With the expansion of the ultra-low emission zone, driving older diesel vehicles in the capital now costs £12.50 a day, so it’s getting pricier to stay traditional.
The diesel decline is partly due to sales dropping by 22% since their 2017 peak, and many stations are now featuring EV charging points instead. The Petrol Retailers Association says only 57% of its members see fuel as a core revenue stream come 2030.
New AutoMotive’s Ben Nelmes highlights that diesel doesn’t keep well, and as fewer people buy it, the fuel is expected to disappear from the pumps. It seems the smart money is on going electric!
Meanwhile, Delvin Lane from InstaVolt notes that filling stations offering EV charging make for smoother and cleaner journeys. The focus is not on forcing drivers into electric cars but on making the transition easy and appealing with better tech.
The RAC Foundation’s Steve Gooding predicts a tipping point on the horizon—when stocking diesel just won’t be worth it anymore. However, he notes how crucial diesel remains for the trucks and vans driving our economy right now.
This shift might be slow but steady, paving the way for cleaner roads and choice-driven change. 🌍🔋
Are you ready to make the switch to electric, or are you sticking with diesel until the bitter end? 🚙💭
