🚰💧 Severn Trent Water dodges a fine, but not criticism for major sewage slip-ups! 🛑
The water watchdog, Ofwat, has been on a mission to clean up the sector, probing how wastewater is managed across the board. In its latest findings, Severn Trent, serving over 8 million people across England and Wales, fell short due to mishandled sewage network operations. Yet, they won’t be slapped with a fine, unlike others in the industry.
Why, you ask? 🤔 Despite their serious failings, Severn Trent impressed regulators by proactively tackling the issues even before Ofwat intervened. They’ve invested a whopping £98 million in improving infrastructure. This proactive stance resulted in a hefty 41% reduction in storm overflow spills by 2025, even with heavier downpours!
Ofwat’s Lynn Parker lauded Severn Trent’s efforts, stating, “Their response sets a benchmark for others: identify issues, invest to resolve them, and communicate openly with us.”
Severn Trent’s Chief, James Jesic, echoed this commitment, emphasising ongoing improvements for their customers and the environment.
