Here’s a story you won’t believe! A woman from Wales got the surprise of her life after returning home from a holiday in Phuket, Thailand. She did what we all do after a trip—tossed her clothes into the washing machine—only to discover a resilient stowaway!

Meet Lucky, the frog who hitched a ride all the way from Thailand, survived a full wash cycle, and emerged from the laundry completely unfazed. Despite the odds—think chemicals, detergent, and dizzying spins—Lucky is thriving and now calls a cosy bug farm in Pembrokeshire home!

Dr Sarah Beynon from The Bug Farm in St Davids shared the tale: “Our friend was gobsmacked when she found the frog alive and kicking after the wash. Given their sensitivity, it’s astonishing it survived such an adventure!”
After rallying the expertise of Pete Hill from Amphibian and Reptile Conservation, Lucky has made a triumphant recovery and is now part of The Bug Farm family. With a little TLC, the golden tree frog has settled in nicely and, fingers crossed, will enjoy a long, happy life here in Wales.
This little escapade serves as a gentle reminder—always double-check your luggage to avoid unexpected travel companions. We’re just glad Lucky’s story has a happy ending, and hopefully it serves to educate on preventing accidental wildlife relocations.
Excited to meet the adventurous frog? The Bug Farm reopens in February, just in time for you to greet its newest resident. Follow their updates on social media @thebugfarm. 📷🐸✨
