๐ฟโ ๏ธ Beware of the Blackberry Picking Hazard! ๐๏ธ๐

Sue Harris from Swansea had an unexpected encounter while enjoying an afternoon picking blackberries, and it left her with painful burns. After brushing against a common plant called Hogweed, Sue found herself dealing with severe skin blisters that could affect her for up to five years! ๐ฑ

Hogweed, a plant often found in the UK’s roadsides and grasslands, packs a toxic punch. Its sap can cause serious burns, making the skin super sensitive to sunlight and leading to recurring blisters. ๐๐ฉน Just hours after her blackberry adventure, Sue noticed a rash developing. By the next day, it had spread, causing her intense pain.
What makes Hogweed particularly scary? If ingested, it could close the airways and inflict burn-like injuries internally! Sue’s GP has recommended she takes extra care in the sun, including wearing SPF50 or a rash vest for years to come, to prevent further damage. โ๏ธ๐งด
Despite being given medication, Sue remains in agony, and her rash may last for another six months. She wants others to be aware, saying, “I didn’t feel anything at the time… I must have just brushed past it. I just want people to know about it because I never knew it was toxic and I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through this.”
Stay safe, friends, and be mindful of what’s lurking in the hedgerows next time you go blackberry picking! ๐๐ก๏ธ
