In court, it was revealed how the attack unfolded. Luke had gone to the Newmans’ home with a friend to buy cannabis. An argument escalated, leading to Carl threatening Luke with a shovel. When Christopher arrived in his Jaguar, he drove at Luke, who managed to narrowly avoid a head-on collision but was still struck and then attacked further.

The brutal assault stopped only when Luke lay motionless on the grass, prompting the brothers to flee in their car. Luke’s friend immediately performed CPR until help arrived, and Luke was rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.

Both brothers pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent. Previously, they had been charged with attempted murder. The court was told of their difficult upbringing, but Judge Jeremy Jenkins condemned their actions, noting their lack of remorse and sympathy after leaving Luke “literally for dead.”
