🎱 Tension and Laughter at the Welsh Open! 🎱

Snooker star Mark Williams had fans chuckling and gasping during the Welsh Open yesterday. The 50-year-old showed incredible form in Llandudno, cruising through to the third round with an impressive 4-1 victory over Martin O’Donnell. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing!

In the third frame, a hiccup occurred when referee Julian Bell made an unusual error. After Williams potted the final red, he went straight for the yellow, levelling the score. Referee Bell hesitated and seemed unsure about re-spotting the yellow ball, causing a brief comedic confusion. Always quick with a quip, Williams turned to the marker and jokingly said, “Thanks… shut up!”
Why the chaos? Snooker rules demand that once a colour is potted after the last red, it must be put back on the table before continuing the sequence. Most players don’t go for the yellow immediately, which is why Bell’s reaction was a little late.
Luckily, Williams noticed the hiccup and paused his shot just in time. Had he continued to the green, a foul might have been called under older rules. According to the current regulations, however, responsibility for such errors lies with the referee, sparing Williams any penalties.
Despite the hiccup, Williams maintained his composure, winning the frame and eventually the match. Way to keep your cool, Mark! 🏆
