Disturbing news from Tenby as Nicholas Mitchell, 60, has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison for a shocking crime. During a family trip in May 2021, Mitchell met a woman in a pub, attacked her in a dark alley, and committed a violent assault, leaving her in a state of distress.

The court heard that after his arrest, Mitchell denied the horrific allegations. However, after a trial in November, he was found guilty of assault by penetration and two counts of rape. The victim shared in court how the attack left her isolated, lonely, and struggling to move forward, stating it had “ruined so much” for her.

Previously convicted of assaulting a police officer in a separate incident, Mitchell’s actions were described by Judge Huw Rees as “violent” and “callous.” Despite his denial, references submitted spoke of Mitchell as a “kind” and “supportive” person, but the court deemed this assault as a “complete aberration.” Nonetheless, he will serve a substantial part of his sentence in custody and remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
