🚗💰 Fuel theft on the rise! 💰🚗

With petrol and diesel prices hitting new highs due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, fuel thefts have surged by a staggering 62% compared to last year. More and more drivers are leaving petrol stations without paying as prices skyrocket. One fuel theft recovery company reports an alarming increase in drive-offs, where individuals fill up and dash off without settling the bill.

In just one month, the average number of weekly drive-offs per forecourt jumped from 2.1 to 3.4. The financial hit is real, with the average value of stolen fuel per incident soaring by 46%. Since the start of the conflict, filling up a family car has become significantly more expensive—£14 more for petrol and a whopping £27 extra for diesel.

Forecourt owners are feeling the pinch, with some reporting losses of up to £2,000 a week across multiple locations. According to Ian Wolfenden from Pay My Fuel, drive-offs are worsening, with the average stolen amount per incident climbing from £56 to £67. That’s nearly £70 gone every two days!
This alarming trend highlights the pressure on both consumers and forecourt owners as fuel costs continue to climb. Let’s hope for some relief at the pumps soon! ⛽️🛢️
