🎱 *Breaking News from Llandudno!* 🎱

Barry Hawkins, known as ‘The Hawk’, soared to victory at the Welsh Open, taking home a hefty £100,000 prize after a stunning 9-5 win over Jack Lisowski! This triumph marks the fifth major accolade of Hawkins’ career and his first win in three years. With impeccable strategy, Hawkins stormed into a 7-1 lead, fended off a fierce comeback effort from Lisowski, and sealed the deal with nerves of steel.

But as with all wins, there’s a twist! 🎢 Unfortunately, a significant chunk of that prize will fly off to the taxman! Starting with a 2.5% deduction by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, then taxed at the 45% rate for high earners, Barry’s take-home amount shrinks considerably. However, the pride and joy of winning on Welsh soil? Priceless.
An emotional Hawkins dedicated his win to cherished individuals no longer with us and spared a heartfelt message for his father, who’s currently facing challenging times. “This one’s for you, Dad,” he said, fighting back tears while thanking the incredible fans and his sponsors.
Fun fact: Hawkins almost pulled out of the tournament but was convinced otherwise by fellow player Mark Selby! As a joke, Selby quipped about wanting a 10% win commission after the big victory.
