As the Senedd election on May 7 approaches, a recent poll has shed light on the Welsh public’s views on devolution, and the results are quite revealing. Conducted by JL Partners, the survey asked 1,008 people in Wales about their stance on this significant political topic.

Here are the key takeaways:
– Only 27% of those surveyed support devolution in Wales.

– 30% are against it, 24% are indifferent, and 19% are unsure.
– Support for devolution is highest among Plaid Cymru voters at 60%, while Conservatives show the most opposition with 67%.

What’s interesting is the surprising lack of awareness about key political figures. Only 47% of respondents could name the Welsh First Minister, Eluned Morgan. The figures are even lower for other party leaders, with Reform UK’s leader Dan Thomas having a recognition rate of just 20%.

With diverse party promises filling the air, like Labour’s commitment to new hospitals and the Green Party’s call for a rent cap, it’s clear that Welsh voters have some decisions to make.

In a thought-provoking twist, when asked whether they’d support independence if it meant financial hardship for a decade, 62% of people said no, while 18% said yes, and 20% were uncertain.

Gabe Winn, CEO of Blakeney, remarked on the findings, “After 25 years, Welsh devolution has yet to captivate a major portion of the population. The question remains if the upcoming election will spark renewed interest or deepen disengagement.”

📅 Don’t forget, the Senedd election is happening soon on May 7, with vote counting scheduled for May 8.
