A brave survivor of child sexual abuse shared their heart-wrenching story in court, confronting their perpetrator, Nicholas Adams, who is now 54. Adams, originally from Swansea, was just a teenager when he committed these unspeakable crimes against the victim, who was under 10 years old.

In Cardiff Crown Court, Adams was found guilty of nine charges, including indecent assault and serious sexual offences. The victim expressed the deep shame and trauma they’ve carried, revealing they contemplated suicide and struggled with mental health challenges. Despite trying to alert their parents as a child, the victim wasn’t believed, leaving scars that extended well into adulthood, leading to substance abuse as a coping mechanism.

The court heard how Adams forced the victim to engage in horrific acts, leaving lifelong psychological and emotional damage. The victim painfully recounted how revisiting the past in court was traumatising and expressed a wish that Adams had confessed to spare them the agony of testifying.
Judge Hywel James sentenced Adams to nine years and six months in prison and imposed a 10-year restraining order. The victim’s courage in bringing these events to light highlights the ongoing need for support and belief for survivors of abuse.
