Liam Black, 21, has just changed his plea to guilty for taking part in the shocking Ely riots in Cardiff last year. This case follows the tragic collision that claimed the lives of teenagers Kyrees Sullivan and Harvey Evans on an electric bike. The unfortunate incident on May 22, 2023, triggered unrest, with around 150 people clashing with police, resulting in 42 people being charged with alleged involvement.

Liam Black will face sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court on June 8. Earlier this year, six other individuals involved in the riots were found guilty at Newport Crown Court. Meanwhile, a new trial is set for early February 2026.
In a twist, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has raised concerns regarding a South Wales Police officer’s conduct. While no contact was found between the police vehicle and the boys’ e-bike before the crash, the officer allegedly may have driven outside his training and authority. There’s more to be discussed at the upcoming misconduct hearing, with an investigation indicating possible breaches of honesty and integrity standards.

Our hearts go out to the families of Kyrees and Harvey and everyone impacted by the tragic events in Ely. The search for truth and accountability continues, as we stand by to see what unfolds next. Stay safe, and let’s hope for justice and peace in our communities.
