👀 Shocking Update: Man Accused of Ian Watkins’ Murder Refuses Court Appearance

In a dramatic turn of events, one of the two prisoners charged with the murder of former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins refused to show up for his first court hearing. The incident took place via a video link at Leeds Crown Court where Rashid Gedel, known at the hearing as Rico Gedel, chose not to participate. His fellow defendant, Samuel Dodsworth, appeared remotely from HMP Wakefield.

Both men are facing murder charges following the death of Watkins, who was serving a lengthy sentence for child sex offences at the time of his death. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the disgraced rock star was pronounced dead.
The court was informed that Gedel had wanted to attend in person, causing a no-show on video. The prosecutor confirmed no bail application was submitted, and both men will stay in custody. Their next big day in court for a plea and trial preparation is slated for November 12, with a provisional trial date set for May next year.
Watkins had a previous brush with danger in 2023 when he was reportedly taken hostage by fellow inmates, although his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening at the time.
Watkins was originally jailed for horrific offences involving children, which he admitted, leading to a 29-year sentence with additional years on licence. The sentencing judge had described his crimes as plummeting new depths of depravity with a significant ongoing risk to the public.
