🏊♂️🚴♀️🏃♂️ Swansea was buzzing with energy as Ironman 70.3 took over the city! Thousands of athletes tackled the challenging course under the scorching sun, cheered on by the famously passionate Welsh support. And what a day it was!
Harry Palmer took the title in the men’s race, crossing the finish line in just 3 hours, 50 minutes and 27 seconds. This is his third win right here in Swansea, and he couldn’t stop raving about the local support, saying: “I’ve never raced anywhere like it.” Meanwhile, Lizzie Rayner dominated the women’s category, completing her race in 4 hours, 23 minutes and 56 seconds, finally breaking her own personal “Swansea curse.” Both winners bagged $7,500 for their outstanding efforts.
The race course was a true showcase of Swansea’s scenic beauty. Kicking off with a 1.2-mile swim at the Prince of Wales Dock, followed by a breathtaking 56-mile cycle through the Gower, and ending with a 13.1-mile run past Swansea Arena to the marina, the event was a feast for the senses. The elite racers weren’t alone though; they were backed by an army of enthusiastic spectators and tireless volunteers who ensured everything ran smoothly.
Kudos to Mika Noot for leading the bike section before an unfortunate crash. And shoutout to the fantastic podium finishers: Kieran Lindars, Joran Driesen, Anne-Sophie Pierre and Marta Lagownik, who all delivered an extraordinary performance.
