Exciting update on Swansea’s giant sinkhole saga! 🎉

The Cwmfelin Club, which was left in ruins after a massive sinkhole appeared back in August 2023, is now seeing progress. Following extensive damage to the club and its surroundings, works are underway to address the aftermath of the collapsed culvert and sewer, parts of an old tramline beneath the site.

Cwmfelin Club’s general secretary, Michael Kennedy, revealed that phase two of the excavation is complete! They’ve successfully located the culvert, tramway, and broken sewer, though the layout threw a few surprises. Independent surveyors are set to inspect the area to ensure everything’s sound before moving forward.
Come mid-July, the team plans to dive into phase one, which involves constructing a new manhole and culvert. The project has been self-financed so far, but talks with Welsh Water could secure assistance for future phases. The removal of pumps and reopening of roads mark a positive shift for the area!
The initial chaos had caused traffic nightmares around Cwmbwrla roundabout, leaving it flooded and impassable, affecting nearby businesses and residents. Remember that barber shop submerged in water last November? Thankfully, the recent progress is a much-needed relief for everyone affected.
Keep your fingers crossed for more updates as the summer weather aids further advancements. 🌞 #SwanseaSinkhole #CommunityUpdate #Progress
