⚠️ Attention pensioners! There’s an important update on your winter fuel payments from HMRC you need to know about. Starting this month, if your annual income is above £35,000, you might notice an extra £17 per month in tax for the 2026-27 tax year, as HMRC begins to recover winter fuel payments made in 2025.

But, be wary! Scammers are on the prowl, using this recovery process as a scam tactic. Remember, HMRC will *never* contact you via text or email requesting bank details or repayments. If you receive suspicious messages, report them: forward texts to 60599 and suspect emails to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk.

For most on PAYE, changes will happen automatically through your tax code. If you’re filing online or via paper returns, make sure to check your 2025-26 tax return for the payment, and add it manually if missing. Deadlines are January 31, 2027, for online filers and October 31, 2026, for paper returns. This applies throughout the UK, including specific arrangements in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
