Tragedy has struck in Blaenau Gwent as police have charged a 14-year-old boy with murder following the heartbreaking discovery of a body, believed to be that of missing schoolgirl Lilly Jones. Lilly, also 14, disappeared from Blaina, and after extensive search efforts, her body was sadly found in Duffryn Park late on Monday night.

The boy in question, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will face Newport Magistrates Court this Friday. While formal identification of the body is still pending, Lilly’s family has been informed and is being supported during this unimaginable time.

In response, police continue their diligent investigation in the area, with cordons and a notable police presence remaining across Blaina, especially around Duffryn Park. The community is urged to be patient and supportive as officers conduct their necessary work.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas extended his thoughts to Lilly’s family and friends, emphasising the sensitivity around the case and urging the public to be mindful of their language, especially online, during this pivotal phase of the investigation.
Tributes have poured in for Lilly from all corners, including heartfelt messages from her school, Brynmawr Foundation School, describing her as a young girl whose kindness, warmth, and vibrant personality touched many. The profound loss of Lilly is felt deeply by her classmates and teachers alike.
As the investigation continues, we stand with the community in remembering Lilly and support those affected by this tragic event. Let’s keep her family and friends in our thoughts. Stay safe, everyone.
