The incident struck on Wheatley Place in Cefn Fforest, where Lainie was sadly murdered and her mother, Rhian Stephens, was also attacked and remains hospitalised with serious injuries.
Gwent Police have launched a murder investigation and arrested an 18-year-old man from Newbridge on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, keeping him in custody. Officers, including firearms teams, descended on the scene early that morning, responding swiftly to reports of serious injuries. Emergency services, including paramedics and the Welsh Air Ambulance, were quick to attend, but nothing could be done to save Lainie.
Amidst the sorrow, her family has expressed gratitude for the community’s support and are raising funds to offer Lainie the funeral she truly deserves. Over £1,500 has been raised so far. Lainie’s cousin Shania Price has reached out, saying, “Our beautiful Lainie’s life was taken too soon. We hope to come together as a community to ease the financial burden for her send-off.”
