A shocking case of domestic abuse has hit the headlines after Marley Burgess, 26, from Cardiff, was sentenced to 17 months in prison for a series of violent acts against his partner. The horrific abuse, which began in 2024 after the couple met online, escalated over time.

In a rage, Burgess bit his partner, slapped and punched her, leaving her with multiple injuries, including black eyes and bruises. The acts of violence didn’t stop there—he frequently damaged her belongings, breaking her phones and even throwing a knife at her and a friend when they threatened to call the police.
The court heard that Burgess forced his partner into dangerous situations, even biting her when she attempted to recover her phone and causing her to hit her head on a glass shower panel. His violent outbursts extended to damaging property when a PlayStation was used as a weapon, and walls were left with holes.

The breaking point came on January 27th when, after attacking her during a phone call, his partner ran to the garden for safety, only for Burgess to follow, threatening more violence. The involvement of her friend and the police finally saw him leave the property, but not before further damage to her television and other possessions was discovered.
Throughout the sentencing, it emerged that Burgess had a history of similar offences and drug addiction, stemming from difficult childhood experiences. Despite these mitigating factors, Recorder Dyfed Thomas condemned his actions, telling him he should be “thoroughly ashamed.”
