Eluned Morgan, our First Minister, has raised a significant concern: if Plaid Cymru secures power, public sector workers across Wales could face pay freezes for the next four years! 😮

During a lively BBC Wales debate, Morgan highlighted that a crucial issue has been overlooked: budgeting for annual inflationary pay rises. Typically, dedicated workers like nurses, teachers, and bin personnel receive these increments. But according to Morgan, Plaid Cymru hasn’t factored in these costs, which amounted to a hefty £360 million last year alone.

With around 350,000 individuals employed in the Welsh public sector, such a freeze could have widespread implications. While Labour points to extra funding of £410m from the UK Government for the next year, they warn that Plaid’s plans might lead to budget shortfalls.

As the Senedd elections on May 7 approach, each party is rolling out enticing promises. From Labour’s commitment to new hospitals to Plaid’s aspiration for expanded free childcare, the competition is stiff. Meanwhile, the Greens advocate for a rent cap, Conservatives want to scrap our equivalent of stamp duty, and the Lib Dems are eyeing an income tax rise to bolster social care.

However, Plaid Cymru has pushed back against Labour’s claims, insisting that their childcare spending plan is misunderstood and disputing any accusations of unpreparedness. They assert that their budget interventions have previously protected thousands of public sector jobs.

As the election date nears, stay informed and decide on the vision you believe will best support our public sector and communities! 🗳️
