🌧️🚨 Storm Chandra Strikes! 🚨🌧️

Chaos struck the UK this weekend as Storm Chandra unleashed torrential rain and strong winds, leaving a Devon village underwater and wreaking havoc on travel networks.

A nightmare hit Tipton St John, which was issued a severe “danger to life” flood warning. Streets turned into rivers, properties were waterlogged, and cars left stranded as the River Otter reached its highest recorded level. Residents faced a horrendous night with up to 80mm of rainfall in some areas.
The storm didn’t stop there—if you’re planning a train journey in Devon, heads up! A massive sinkhole, measuring 8 by 3.5 metres, emerged near the railway line between Dawlish and Teignmouth. This has forced a temporary closure between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot for urgent repairs starting from 7pm Wednesday till 7am Thursday, with replacement buses stepping in. Great Western Railway’s Mark Hopwood assures they aim to reopen traffic swiftly but safety’s the top priority.
Condolences go out to all affected, and a huge shoutout to the emergency services, Environment Agency, and council staff braving the storm to keep people safe. Richard Foord, Liberal Democrat MP for Honiton and Sidmouth, tagged the night as “truly horrendous” and praised those tirelessly working to counter the deluge.
Stay tuned for updates, and please stay safe, especially if you’re in flood-affected areas. When nature puts on such a dramatic show, it’s a stark reminder of the power of the elements.
