Tragedy in Greenwich: Mum Stabbed by Violent Ex

Devasting news from Greenwich as Halyna Hoisan, a beloved mother, lost her life in a brutal attack by her ex-partner, Yurii Muzyka. The horrific event unfolded in her own home, with their 3-year-old daughter present. Despite previous reports of violence and stalking to the police, Halyna’s efforts to safeguard herself were tragically in vain.

Muzyka, 34, executed a premeditated attack, stabbing Halyna six times and callously filming a ‘selfie video’ following the act. The court heard how, motivated by jealousy and control, he forced his way into her flat on 27 August last year. He then attempted to harm himself but survived.

Muzyka’s obsession with control was evident; Halyna had discovered a tracking device on her daughter’s scooter after being informed of her whereabouts by him. Despite securing a non-molestation order and moving to escape him, Muzyka tracked her down. Just before the attack, he bought a knife and recorded troubling videos on his phone.
During the trial, Halyna’s heartbroken mother shared the profound impact her daughter’s death has had on the family. The judge described Muzyka’s actions as degrading and intrusive, ultimately sentencing him to life in prison with a minimum term of 30 years for this appalling act.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Franklin stated that Halyna’s murder was a callous act of cruelty, and the conviction highlights the commitment to tackling violence against women.
Our thoughts are with Halyna’s family and all who loved her during this unimaginably difficult time. May justice bring a measure of comfort to those affected by this tragedy.
