Tragic news has hit the Cheltenham Festival, as beloved racehorse Envoi Allen has passed away. The 12-year-old legend collapsed after finishing his final Gold Cup run, marking the end of an extraordinary career in National Hunt racing. Known for his stellar performances over eight consecutive festivals, Envoi Allen captivated crowds with 10 Grade 1 victories, including the Champion Bumper and Ryanair Chase.

The loss of Envoi Allen adds to a sorrowful week at Cheltenham, with HMS Seahorse and Hansard also tragically passing, totalling three equine deaths this Festival.

The Jockey Club, organisers of the Festival, emphasise their commitment to horse safety, having invested £63m in equine welfare since 2000. They note that efforts like changing jump markers to improve visibility and introducing padded hurdles are part of their strategy to minimise risks. However, the recent fatalities have sparked a conversation about the ongoing efforts needed to ensure horse safety at such high-profile events.
Our hearts go out to all involved with Envoi Allen and the other horses lost this week. Envoi Allen’s legacy as a fan favourite and racing icon will not be forgotten. 🐴💔
