Tragedy struck in Changsha, Hunan province, when a devastating explosion at a fireworks factory claimed at least 26 lives and left 61 others injured. On Monday afternoon, a massive blast tore through the plant, sending plumes of smoke skyward and prompting a swift response from nearly 500 rescuers. Residents in nearby danger zones were evacuated to safety. Authorities are on high alert due to the presence of two nearby black-powder warehouses, heightening the risk factor at the site.

State media reports revealed that the explosion left several buildings either collapsed or severely damaged. Rescue teams employed three robotic units to locate missing individuals, employing spraying and humidification methods to mitigate potential threats.

As white smoke continued to billow from parts of the site, officials launched an investigation into the explosion’s cause. The person responsible for the company has been detained by police.
President Xi Jinping called for urgent action to care for the injured and find those still missing. He stressed the importance of an immediate inquiry into the disaster’s origins and ordered risk assessments across critical sectors. With a rich history in fireworks manufacturing, Liuyang has long been associated with the creation of the Chinese firecracker by Li Tian during the Tang dynasty.
The incident has cast a shadow over the region, which experienced two other fatal explosions at fireworks retailers earlier this year during the Lunar New Year celebrations. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this heartbreaking event. 🌟💔 #ChangshaExplosion #FireworksFactoryTragedy #HunanProvince
