Tragic news from Welshpool as we remember 15-year-old Holli Smallman, who sadly drowned after slipping into the River Severn last August during a sweltering heatwave. While enjoying a day out with her friends, Holli slipped near a weir and was pulled under the fast-flowing water. Despite her friends’ desperate attempts to save her, Holli was found over three hours later, having tragically lost her life.

Holli’s family has shared their immense heartbreak, describing her as a vibrant soul full of joy and a love for music and dance. They urge everyone to be aware of the dangers posed by open water, emphasising the importance of water safety to prevent such heartbreaking events from happening again.
Holli was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, known for her infectious smile and positive energy. As an active member of the local army cadets and a pupil at Welshpool High School, she touched the lives of many in her community. Her family wishes to thank the emergency services and NHS staff for their efforts and extend their gratitude for the overwhelming support and kindness shown by everyone during this difficult time.

As we remember Holli, let’s honour her memory by raising awareness about the potential hazards of open water, especially for those who might not be strong swimmers. Our thoughts remain with her family, friends, and the Welshpool community. Stay safe and cherish your loved ones.
