Tragedy struck for 23-year-old Sophie Bowles from Powys, as her dream job turned into a nightmare. Passionate about her work as an HGV driver and highway maintenance operative, Sophie was involved in a horrific accident when a car crashed into her, crushing her against a chipper. The impact shattered her pelvis in nine places and left her with life-changing injuries. Her dad, Matthew, described it as the “worst pelvic injury” the surgeon had ever seen in a surviving patient.

Sophie’s resilience and determination have been remarkable, but her journey to recovery is long and challenging. Having already undergone three major surgeries, including extensive work to repair her pelvis, she remains in tremendous pain. Sophie’s family is staying strong beside her, with Matthew saying they are proud of her strength, even as they navigate this life-altering situation.

To support Sophie’s recovery and help her regain some independence at home, her family has started a fundraiser. They’re aiming to convert their garage into an accessible wet room and living space, as Sophie faces a lengthy rehabilitation process.
The accident occurred on July 13th, and Sophie is now preparing to continue her recovery at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil. If you’d like to support Sophie’s journey, consider contributing to her GoFundMe to help adapt her home for her new needs.
Sophie’s courage and the support of her family are truly inspiring. Let’s rally around them as they take on the road to recovery together. #SupportSophie #StrongLikeSophie
