A heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over the festive season in the Cotswolds. In the early hours of Boxing Day, a devastating house fire tragically claimed the lives of a mother and her two young children in Brimscombe Hill, near Stroud.

Emergency teams arrived swiftly at approximately 3am, but despite their efforts, the tragedy unfolded, leaving a community in mourning. The mother, in her 40s, along with her seven-year-old daughter and four-year-old son, could not be saved. Grieving this immense loss, the community stands in support of the family.
The father, who is a serving police officer, managed to escape the blaze and is currently receiving treatment at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. The fire’s ferocity has delayed recovery efforts, with one child’s body yet to be retrieved due to the property’s instability.

Officials have confirmed that the fire started on the ground floor and that there doesn’t seem to be any suspicious activity linked to the incident. Detective Superintendent Ian Fletcher referred to the event as a “tragic incident,” and investigations remain ongoing as the community grapples with the loss.

Our thoughts are with all affected by this unimaginable tragedy. Let’s come together to support this family and our community in these incredibly difficult times.
