A Tylorstown family is heartbroken after a Boxing Day fire destroyed their newly-renovated dream home. Sarah Nicholas, her partner Gavin, and her son Kenzie watched helplessly as flames engulfed their home, turning their festive cheer into a nightmare.

The tragedy struck when an extension lead connected to a second fridge overheated and sparked a fire, ripping through their Penrhys Road house. Sarah, a mother of three, hadn’t yet insured the property, leaving her with nothing but ashes and memories. “I’ve lost everything,” she lamented, urging others to ensure they have home insurance and to be cautious with extension leads to prevent electrical fires.

A nearby neighbour, Paula Lewis, who was out stargazing luckily noticed the smoke and sparks and rushed to alert the family. Thanks to her quick action, the family escaped unharmed, though the flames engulfed the property in no time. Sadly, while Sarah’s dog Coba was saved, their pet parakeet did not survive.
Despite the devastation, local support has been overwhelming, with a GoFundMe page already raising nearly £4,000 to help the family rebuild. This incident serves as a heart-wrenching reminder to never overlook home safety measures. Sarah’s story is not just about loss but also about community, quick thinking, and learning from past mistakes. Let’s support Sarah and her family in their time of need and remember the importance of home safety.
