Heartbreaking news from Devon, as a tragic fire at a kennel in Shillingford claimed the lives of four beloved dogs. The blaze erupted late Sunday evening at around 9:35 PM, quickly engulfing the structure located on the Devon-Somerset border near Bampton.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene after being alerted to the fire, which had fully consumed the kennel building by the time they arrived. Firefighters from Bampton, Dulverton, Wellington, and Wiveliscombe worked tirelessly, using water jets, thermal imaging cameras, and breathing apparatus to wrestle the fire under control. The dedicated crews battled the blaze for several hours but were unable to save the lives of the dogs inside.
The firefighters faced challenging conditions, with the building severely damaged by the fire. Measuring 15 by 11 metres, it posed a significant threat, prompting the response of four fire engines along with a water bowser to supply additional resources. Despite their valiant efforts, the loss of the four dogs is a stark reminder of the unpredictability and devastation that such incidents can cause.

Authorities have determined that the fire was accidental, offering some closure but little consolation to those grieving for their lost pets. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by this tragic incident.
