Baxter, a lively Springer-Cocker spaniel, lifted his paw suddenly and began limping. Despite being rushed to the vets, Baxter’s condition worsened, and he sadly didn’t make it. Jo’s gut tells her an adder was to blame—the only venomous snake in the UK. Unfortunately, swift intervention couldn’t save him this time. 💔

Jo is now on a mission to warn fellow dog owners about the risk. “Adder bites are rare, but they can happen,” she said. Even grassy fields, not just dunes, can host these snakes. Early spring is when adders emerge, and they might not slither away as fast, so be cautious! 🌞

Though Baxter’s death was a shock, Jo is thankful for the vet’s swift action. While anti-venom wasn’t given due to risks, she couldn’t fault the care they provided. Sadly, with Anglesey lacking overnight animal care since 2024, Jo had planned to transport Baxter further afield.
