📺 Big news for sports fans! This summer marks a seismic shift in TV history as the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow kicks off without the BBC’s usual coverage for the first time in over 70 years! 🏅

TNT Sports now holds the reins, bringing an epic 600 hours of live action from Scotland. While many expected the BBC to air daily round-ups, it’s Channel 5 that swooped in to snag all the highlight reels.
Why Glasgow? Initially, Victoria, Australia, had the hosting honours but stepped down due to financial constraints, allowing Glasgow—a familiar host from 2014—to fill in.

With the BBC stepping back from more sporting events recently, including the Boat Race and parts of the Six Nations, Channel 5’s Ben Frow couldn’t be more thrilled: “We’re excited to team up with TNT Sports to bring British viewers their favourite sports stars for free.”
Meanwhile, the BBC’s sport bosses insist they’re adapting to the times, focusing on digital engagement rather than live sports alone. According to Alex Kay-Jelski, their challenge is to remain part of the conversation in meaningful ways, like covering Formula One through online media.
Wondering where to catch your favourite matches? Channel 5’s got the daily highlights covered, or you can check out subscription options if you want the live play-by-play!
Stay tuned for an exciting summer of sports! 🎉
