After handing Spain’s captain, Rodri, the iconic Jules Rimet trophy, Trump decided to hang around during the celebrations. His presence didn’t go unnoticed, especially after the crowd at MetLife Stadium had earlier booed him following the national anthem. The scene was a mix of cheers, jeers, and a little cheeky photobombing from Trump! 😲🇺🇸
Joined by FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who couldn’t help but laugh, Trump was eventually nudged off the stage, but not before making his moment memorable. The president’s role in the ceremony had been planned well in advance, echoing his previous appearance during the Fifa Club World Cup when Chelsea claimed victory.
Security at the stadium was tight, given the event’s “Level 1” status – a top classification reserved for major events. Yet, the White House seemed unbothered, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt calling Trump’s attendance the cherry on top of a hugely successful tournament.
