Exciting times for the Cardiff Capital Region! 🎉 The UK Government has just signed off on the final £134 million of its financial commitment, marking the last piece of the puzzle for the ambitious £1.2 billion City Deal. This funding will be rolled out over the next five years, bringing us closer to a vibrant and thriving southeast Wales.

Since the City Deal kickstarted in 2016, with both UK and Welsh governments pledging £500 million each and the region’s councils chipping in £120 million, we’ve seen incredible progress. A significant chunk is heading towards the electrifying £1.1 billion South Wales Metro project, turbocharging our transport network. But the investment doesn’t stop there—new projects across various sectors are in the works, thanks to the clever use of evergreen funds that reinvest returns for future growth!
The Cardiff Capital Region, now a statutory body with shiny new powers over planning, economic, and transport affairs, successfully passed its second gateway review, allowing this latest funding release. Chair Mary Ann Brocklesby is beaming with pride over this independent recognition, noting over 5,000 jobs created, 2,700 people upskilled, and more than 83,000 square metres of new space already rolled out. 🚀

Our investments are making waves, boosting private investment, and sparking business confidence. Here’s to a more resilient regional economy and a brighter future for our communities! 💪
