π’ Attention pet lovers! πΎ

A massive update for UK pet owners is on the horizon! π¨ Over 228,000 animal advocates have spoken up, calling for a significant rule change to protect our furry friends from abuse. The buzz? A public register for animal abusers and lifetime bans on owning pets for offenders.

This movement, sparked by a passionate petition, is heading to Parliament for debate on 29th June. The proposed register aims to be a powerful tool for vets, breeders, charities, and the public, helping to prevent repeat offences. π
But hereβs the twist: the Government has said there are “no plans” to introduce such a register. They argue that we already have strong protections under the Animal Welfare Act, and any abuse cases are logged on the Police National Computer. The act already allows for lifetime bans, but they currently rest at the discretion of judges.
πΆ Animal welfare supporters argue that an automatic ban could prevent cruelty and break cycles of harm. Now, with the petition surpassing 100,000 signatures, itβs sparked a parliamentary debate set to dive into the future of animal protection laws in the UK. You can catch all the action live on the UK Parliament YouTube channel.
Our pets depend on us to keep them safe, so stay tuned, and let’s see how this unfolds! ππ±
