🏞️ **Beddgelert’s Future in the Spotlight** 🐾

Nestled in the heart of Eryri National Park, the village of Beddgelert, famous for its legendary dog, Gelert, is facing some big changes that have sparked quite the debate among locals and visitors alike.

The village, with its charming beauty, has been a perennial favourite for tourists seeking the perfect getaway. But a new “masterplan” could change the landscape. Forest Holidays plans to expand its site with 22 more cabins, a new café, and reception area while removing existing caravan pitches. Meanwhile, Cae Du and Cae Canol campsites, part of the proposal by the Roberts Group, aim to increase their pitch numbers significantly.
This £8m plan promises enhanced facilities but raises concerns. Many worry the development may harm Beddgelert’s natural beauty and overwhelm its capacity, with organisations like Natural Resources Wales expressing concerns about the scale and intensity of the proposed development.
Wastewater and traffic management are under scrutiny too. Dwr Cymru has pointed out potential limitations in the sewerage system, though improvements are planned by the end of 2027. Transport issues remain a challenge, with parking a persistent problem. Cadnant Planning maintains that new paths and infrastructure improvements will mitigate these effects, ensuring no extra traffic strain on the village.
Locals are divided, with eight respondents fearing the plan could lead to over-tourism. Yet, many businesses see it as a boon for the local economy and job creation, hoping visitor influx will only enrich the village.
The proposal is now with Eryri National Park Authority for review. As Beddgelert treads this fine line between growth and preservation, the conversation around its future remains as captivating as its landscape. 🌿🚶♂️🏕️
