💷✨ Imagine saving £670 just by depositing pennies and effortlessly growing your savings! Sounds interesting, right? Well, that’s exactly what the 1p savings challenge is all about. I tried it out and want to share my experience (and a couple of tips) with you.

Every festive season, my wallet feels the pinch after buying gifts and organising get-togethers. So, I turned to the 1p savings challenge as a fun solution. The idea is simple: save 1p on the first day, 2p on the second, and continue adding a penny more every day for a year. Alternatively, you can reverse it by saving £3.65 on the first day down to 1p on the final day. Either way, by year’s end, voilà, you’ve stashed away £667.95!

In 2025, I gave this challenge another shot with improved tactics. Initially, I struggled with remembering daily contributions, so I grabbed a tracker to tick off as I saved. Still, I missed days, but eventually, a bit of tech help came my way. Monzo’s Challenge Pot automated the daily saves for me. Though it wasn’t a proper savings account and required a subscription for extra features like interest and prize draws, it sure made the process smoother.
Yet, there’s a catch – the £3 monthly fee for an account. Periodically, I’d move funds to my regular savings to dodge this cost. Looking back, more frequent transfers could have boosted my savings!
And here’s a key takeaway: sometimes the little methodical things like this challenge or using automated round-ups help build a nice sum without much hassle. With auto-savings, you’re just spending as usual and letting the savings quietly build up!
For me, the 1p challenge was a neat little trick to ease December expenses. In 2026, my goal? Maximise interest on those savings! So, if you’re looking for a simple New Year’s resolution that can add up over time, give this a whirl! 🚀💰 What’s your go-to savings hack? 😎 Let me know in the comments!
