🚨 Big Swipe at Tata Steel! 🚨

Ever heard of a million-pound heist without the midnight drama? A clever trio managed to pocket a whopping £700,000 in a smart yet risky plan targeting Tata Steel’s Trostre plant in Llanelli. In just over a year, they nicked nearly 49 tonnes of tin ingots, valued at over £1.2 million! Believe it or not, none of that metal has been recovered.

The mastermind, Thomas Ashford, was the man on the inside with easy access to the goods. His ‘partner in crime’, Stewart Jones, worked on the site’s security detail (oh, the irony!) and played a major role by opening gates specifically for the operation. Meanwhile, Matthew Membury was the outside man, a former delivery driver who made sure the tin found its way to eager metal traders.

Their operation ran like clockwork, with thefts taking place during shift changes when there were lots of folks bustling about. Stewart even managed to create a fake ID badge for Membury, allowing him to waltz in and out smoothly. Former soldier Richard Jones was occasionally roped in to help load the loot but claimed his involvement was minimal.
Swift police action eventually brought their shenanigans to a stop. Membury was nabbed with a van full of ingots—and a few swords, for some reason! Both Ashford and Stewart have been sentenced to 40 months behind bars, and Richard Jones received a 20-month suspended sentence. Membury’s sentencing is next on the docket.
💡 Moral of the story? Crime may pay quickly, but it also catches up fast! 😲
