In an extraordinary show of love and community spirit, a Welsh village has united to support young Olivia Finch in her battle against an aggressive form of cancer. Diagnosed at just two years old with stage four neuroblastoma, Olivia and her family have faced unimaginable challenges. Yet, with the unyielding support of their community in Bryn, Neath Port Talbot, they found glimmers of hope.

When news of Olivia’s condition spread, the village responded with boundless generosity. Fundraisers, from bake sales to charity events, swept through the community, reaching hearts as far as Australia and South Africa. Their efforts were not in vain, raising a staggering £150,000 in just one month.

Despite relapses and medical setbacks, Olivia’s spirit never faltered. Her courage inspired Cwmafan Primary School, where her sister Megan and classmates decided to give back to the charity Tŷ Hafan. The school held a sponsored walk, with Olivia proudly partaking in her bright green tutu. Their initial target was overtaken by an outpouring of generosity, raising over £10,000, which will be doubled by Tŷ Hafan’s Champions Appeal.
Olivia’s journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions, with medical trials from the UK to Italy. Although some treatments couldn’t proceed, the family found solace in knowing they’d explored every avenue for Olivia’s sake. “We’ve tried everything,” said Kelly, Olivia’s mum. “I don’t think we could have lived with ‘what ifs’.”
As they continue this journey, the Finch family remains surrounded by an extraordinary network of support. Tŷ Hafan has become a sanctuary, offering much-needed respite and therapy. Olivia might be under palliative care now, but they view it through a lens of life and love.
In these heartwarming moments, Olivia’s strength transforms into a beacon for all. Her smile never fades, embodying the unbreakable resolve of a community united in compassion and resilience. As her mum, Kelly, shares, “If Olivia wasn’t the way she was, I’m not sure we would be where we are today.”
