Pope Leo isn’t backing down! The pontiff has spoken out against the ongoing conflict in Iran, and he’s not afraid to let everyone know where he stands, even in the face of criticism from Donald Trump. The US president recently hit out at Pope Leo, calling him “weak on crime and terrible for foreign policy” in a fiery social media post. Trump even claimed that if he wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican.

But the Pope’s having none of it. Speaking to reporters from aboard the papal plane, he made it clear that his mission is grounded in the Gospel and urged world leaders to prioritise peace over conflict. Despite Trump’s harsh words, Pope Leo emphasised that his call for global harmony isn’t a direct attack on the American president or anyone else.

In response, Trump hasn’t held back, slamming the American-born Pope further and criticising his leadership. Even after returning from Florida, Trump continued to voice his displeasure, stating plainly: “I’m not a fan of Pope Leo.”
The drama began after Leo led a prayer service at St Peter’s Basilica, coinciding with US-Iran talks amid a shaky ceasefire. While he refrained from naming Trump or the US directly, the Pope’s message seemed aimed at those flaunting military power in spiritual terms.
Amidst all this, Trump’s bold posturing continued with a dramatic image of himself styled with saint-like qualities, drawing both awe and bemusement.
The back-and-forth between the leader of the Catholic Church and the US President certainly has everyone talking. Where do you stand on this heated exchange? Share your thoughts!
