A young nail technician from Falkirk, Scotland, has survived a terrifying dog attack that’s changed her life forever. Samantha Redding was innocently getting ready for a day out when a familiar face—her friend’s dog—unexpectedly turned on her, leaving severe injuries. The dog, a Spanish Mastiff-Akita, pounced on Samantha in a shocking five-second frenzy, tearing away part of her face.

In a state of shock, Samantha glanced in a mirror only to realise the extent of her injuries—half her face was gone. She immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors performed a complex 12-hour surgery to reconstruct her face, using skin grafts from her arm and leg and even a tracheostomy to help with breathing. After spending a gruelling month in recovery, Samantha still faces the prospect of future surgeries.

For someone who’s always had a soft spot for animals—she even owns a little Cavapoo—this experience has been extraordinarily difficult. She expressed: “I’ve been a mess, struggling to feel like myself again. Every time I’m out, I feel eyes on me, and I still can’t open my mouth fully. It’s going to leave a lifelong scar, not just on my face, but emotionally as well.”
Samantha, while grateful to be alive, wishes this horror on no one. “I have gone through every emotion you can imagine. The doctors said I was lucky—it could’ve been so much worse.”
This traumatic ordeal is why a fundraiser has been set up to help Samantha with ongoing medical care as she tries to restore some normalcy to her life. If you’d like to support her recovery journey, you can visit her GoFundMe page: [GoFundMe Link]
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old man has been charged under the Dangerous Dog Act 1991 following the attack, but what Samantha truly seeks is positive change so no one else has to go through such a harrowing experience.
