🎄 This Christmas, a powerful project shines a light on an often overlooked issue: the plight of 172,420 children spending the festive season in temporary accommodation across England.

While many of us are busy decking the halls, these children are facing a very different reality. Families living in cramped, temporary spaces far from home often lack the support they need. On average, these households spend over two and a half years in limbo.
To highlight this critical issue, B&Q has teamed up with artist and former homelessness survivor David Tovey and the charity Shelter. Together, they’ve unveiled a unique art installation called “Temporary Trees”—a forest of 172 child-like tree designs. Each tree tells a story of struggle and resilience, making sure these kids are not forgotten this Christmas.

These striking installations are now on display in B&Q stores across the UK and Ireland. Every real Christmas tree bought from B&Q will see £1 donated to Shelter. Even better, from 1–7 December, B&Q will match customer donations made in-store through Pennies, doubling the impact.
David Tovey, reflecting on his involvement, shared, “This project is deeply personal. Growing up without a home was tough, and I see the same courage in today’s children. These 172 trees aren’t just symbols; they’re a call to action to make these children’s presence felt and their voices heard.”
Joanna Gluzman of B&Q emphasised their mission, saying, “We believe everyone deserves a safe home, especially during the festive season. Our partnership with Shelter helps us strive towards that goal.”
