π Big changes are coming for Motability users! The charity has now halved the annual mileage allowance from 20,000 to 10,000 miles. If you go over, you’ll be charged 25p per mile. The update, effective July 2026, has raised concerns, especially for those in rural areas who might need to drive further.

MP Liz Saville Roberts has questioned the impact of these changes on disabled individuals in such regions. In response, the Department for Work and Pensions mentioned that up to 25% of users could be affected. However, they also noted that 75% of customers already drive less than the new limit.

Additionally, a new technology called Drive Smart has been introduced. It involves a device paired with a phone app to monitor driving behaviour and ensure safety. The scheme aims to reward safe driving habits. It records speed, braking patterns, and phone usage, among other metrics. If a driver accumulates four “red” weeks in a year due to dangerous driving, they risk losing access to the Motability scheme.
Motability stresses that drivers won’t be penalised for high usage alone, but persistent risky behaviour could have consequences. The charity suggests breaks every hour and limiting daily trips to six, though this wonβt impact your lease. Stay informed and stay safe on your journeys! π£οΈπ
Remember, these changes only apply to new leases. Existing contracts remain unchanged. Let’s see how these updates unfold! ππ¨οΈ
