The holiday season is synonymous with good company, festive cheer, and let’s be honest, an abundance of food! 🍗 But while a second helping (or third!) is commonplace, persistent tummy troubles might not always be a sign of overindulgence.

In December, widely recognised as Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, clinical pharmacist Kiran Jones warns us of some symptoms masquerading as festive feasting woes. Here’s what to watch out for:

1️⃣ **The Holiday Belly Blues:** Feeling bloated is typical after a Christmas spread, but if it lingers for more than a few days, it’s time to reconsider if it’s just the Christmas dinner to blame. Persistent bloating can sometimes signal gut health issues, even bowel cancer.

2️⃣ **Bathroom Runs or Constipation Conundrums:** More frequent bathroom trips are normal after rich, sugary meals. However, changes in your bowel habits, like ongoing diarrhoea or constipation, are not. Keep an eye on these changes, as they could indicate something more serious.

3️⃣ **Falling Asleep at the Feast:** Sure, Christmas can wear you out, but exhaustion that nap-time doesn’t cure could be a red flag. Bowel cancer might cause anaemia, resulting in persistent fatigue long after the celebrations end.

4️⃣ **Spotting Red Down Below:** While holiday treats may sometimes colour your stool, true blood isn’t something to overlook. It could be more than just festive food playing tricks.

5️⃣ **Feeling Full Before the First Course:** A sense of fullness after eating very little can indicate potential bowel issues. Monitor it, especially if it persists.

6️⃣ **More Than Just Christmas Cramps:** Severe or continuous stomach pain post-meal goes beyond holiday gorging. Don’t delay checking persistent pain with a health professional.

This festive season, enjoy your meals but stay mindful of these signs. Early detection could make a world of difference. Don’t wait for the New Year to prioritise your health! 🌟

Stay healthy and joyful! ✨
