🚨 Water Bill Alert! 🚨
Hold onto your hats, folks, as water bills are about to surge once more! Five major water companies—Anglian, Northumbrian, Southern, South East, and Wessex—have been given the green light to raise their rates up to an additional 5%.
Here’s the breakdown:
🔹 Anglian & Northumbrian: Up 1%
🔹 Southern: Up 3%
🔹 South East: Up 4%
🔹 Wessex: Up 5%
The regulator Ofwat initially rejected these significant hikes, but the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) stepped in, allowing some increases—albeit less than the companies requested. The CMA reviewed requests for a staggering £2.7 billion in extra revenue but approved just £556 million of it.
Kirstin Baker, leading an independent group of experts, said: “Higher bills on top of those already announced are largely unjustified.” They’re aiming to balance pressures on household budgets with the need to fund essential water service improvements.
