🚨 **Alert for Farmers in Wales!** 🚨

Bluetongue virus (BTV-3) has been spotted in Wales for the first time, with cases identified in Chepstow, Monmouthshire, and Presteigne, Powys. This virus, transmitted by biting midges, primarily affects sheep, cattle, goats, and other ruminants. While cattle usually experience mild symptoms, sheep can suffer from severe, often deadly, symptoms like fever, lameness, and swelling.
The Welsh Government is urging farmers to stay alert, practise safe sourcing of livestock, and report any suspected cases to the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). To ease livestock movement, vaccinated animals from England have been allowed into Wales due to reduced virus transmission as temperatures drop.

Earlier this year, BTV-3 was only seen in England, prompting the Royal Welsh Show to ban English livestock as a precaution. This is a crucial moment to protect our livestock and industry. Stay informed, stay safe, and consult your vet if you’re unsure. 🐑🐄
