Sad news for burger lovers as MAG, the renowned beef haven, is set to close its Banwen branch this September. Chef and co-founder, Geth Thomas, took to social media with an emotional announcement, explaining that “it’s just not doable anymore” in the current challenging hospitality climate.

MAG, short for The Meat & Greet, started back in 2016 and quickly became a local favourite, serving up massive, mouth-watering burgers, tacos, and even Sunday roasts. Over the years, the Banwen venue turned into a beloved community hotspot, hosting everything from personal celebrations to family gatherings.

Despite the sadness surrounding the closure, there’s still a silver lining for MAG fans. The Swansea branch, Go MAG at Parc Tawe, and their spot at Founders & Co. are still very much cooking up a storm. Geth reassures that both these locations will continue to serve the delicious dishes that have carved a niche in everyone’s heart (and stomach!).
In his heartfelt message, Geth thanked everyone who’s been part of their journey—the staff, the customers, and the community. He reflects on countless memories and milestones, acknowledging how the Banwen outlet paved the way for their other successful ventures.
Fans quickly rallied in support, with messages pouring in recounting amazing meals and memories shared at Banwen. Though bittersweet, the community is eager to see what’s next for MAG.
Make sure to head over to Banwen before doors close on 21st September, and continue to support MAG in their other locations. The restaurant’s legacy lives on, with more delicious chapters yet to come! 🍔❤️
