Exciting times ahead for Scarlets Rugby! Big changes are brewing as interim director Nigel Davies lays out plans for an extensive revamp both on and off the field. After a tough season, sitting at 15th in the United Rugby Championship table, Davies is steering the Scarlets towards vital improvements.
Despite the challenges of recruitment amidst financial uncertainties, Davies assures fans there’s good news around the corner. With a stronger budget, Scarlets aim to bolster their squad to 45 senior players, increasing competition and driving performance.
A key focus will be on strengthening the pack. Davies highlights the need for fresh faces, especially in the scrum and lineout, ensuring they align with the ‘Scarlets DNA’ and style of play. He’s committed to invigorating the team and believes in nurturing the backline talent already present.
Nigel Davies isn’t just shuffling players; there are significant changes on the horizon for the coaching team as well, with defence coach Jared Payne set to leave. The club is committed to high performance, aligning style, skills, and strategies for the future.
Meanwhile, Sale Sharks are in talks with England to give star player Tom Curry some much-needed rest this summer. At just 27, Curry’s career has been plagued by injuries, and director Alex Sanderson urges for his recuperation to extend his playing career. It’s all about smart planning to keep Curry fit for future big moments, like the World Cup.
In women’s rugby, Kate Williams steps up as sole captain for Wales in the upcoming Six Nations, as Alex Callender and Nel Metcalfe are sidelined with injuries. It’s bittersweet but opens doors for new talent to shine.
Finally, six Cardiff stars head to South Africa, boosting their ranks for crucial matches against the Bulls and Sharks. They’re keeping play-off dreams alive in the United Rugby Championship with fresh energy from their recent victory over Leinster.
