🎉 Celebrations all around at a Welsh company after workers secure a significant pay rise! 🌟 Staff at Qioptiq, a St Asaph-based high-tech defence manufacturer, have successfully negotiated an 8% pay increase after contemplating a strike. Initially offered a mere 3%, the workers banded together and voted for industrial action earlier this month.

Their determination paid off, as the new deal includes a 3.5% pay rise in the first year, plus a 1.5% bonus come December, with extra annual leave. The goodies don’t stop there—year two promises a further 4.5% increase!

Unite’s general secretary, Sharon Graham, hailed the win as proof of what’s possible when workers stand united. “It’s a real victory for our members at Qioptiq,” she said, praising the unity and resolve that led to this success. Meanwhile, the planned strikes by Unite and GMB union members are off the table as the workers happily move forward with their improved terms.
Qioptiq, renowned for producing cutting-edge optics like night vision equipment for the defence sector, can now maintain its focused workforce, thanks to this deal. That’s a big cheer for fair pay and strong worker representation! 👏
